 7. Explore Tossa Del Mar: A Day Trip Worth Taking

Village by the beach
Tossa del Mar Village

Located Just 1.5 hours away from Barcelona, Tossa Del Mar is a gem you shouldn’t miss. This picturesque coastal town is home to the Tossa Del Mar castle and stunning beach caves. Cala Pola is a beautiful spot, but don’t stop there—check out Playa D’es Codolar, Cala Levantó, and Cala De’es Carlos for more hidden treasures.

I took a road trip to Tossa Del Mar and spent the day exploring the medieval castle and relaxing in the beach caves. Each cove has its own unique charm, and the crystal-clear waters were perfect for swimming and snorkelling.

Travel Tips:

  • How To get There:

Less than a two-hour drive from Barcelona lies the charming seaside town of Tossa de Mar. Easily accessible by bus, this hidden gem offers visitors the opportunity to explore its historic castle, stunning beaches, and picturesque coves. Tossa de Mar is also the perfect destination for those seeking adventure on the water, with options for catamaran boat parties, kayaking, and other exciting water activities. Don't miss out on experiencing the beauty and excitement that Tossa de Mar has to offer!

  • Recommended beaches to visit:

Arriving in the city early provides you with the opportunity to explore the castle through a hike and still have plenty of time to visit 2-3 other picturesque coves and beaches in the area. Some of the notable spots include Cala se Futadera, Cala Giverola, Cala Bona, Cala De’s Rajols, and Playa De Llorell. With a early start, you can enjoy the beauty of these natural gems without feeling rushed.

 8. Indulge in Authentic Spanish Cuisine at Mercado Boqueria

No trip to Barcelona is complete without indulging in its culinary delights. Head to Mercado Boqueria to try authentic Spanish tapas and explore the vibrant market. It’s a great place to find unique souvenirs and immerse yourself in the local culture.

At Mercado Boqueria, I tasted a variety of tapas, from patatas bravas to jamón ibérico, and even picked up some delicious local sweets to bring home. The bustling atmosphere and array of colours and scents made it a sensory delight.

 9. Discover Gaudi’s Masterpieces: Casa Batlló and Parque Guëll

Parque Guell, 2 travellers

Barcelona is synonymous with the genius of Antoni Gaudi. Make sure to visit Casa Batlló and Parque Guëll, two of his most iconic works. Both sites require entry tickets, which can be booked in advance to avoid the crowds. Early morning or late afternoon visits are usually less crowded.

My visit to Casa Batlló was like stepping into a fairy tale. The intricate designs and vibrant colors were awe-inspiring. Later, I wandered through Parque Guëll, where the whimsical architecture and stunning city views left me speechless.

Navigating Barcelona: A Guide to Transportation

Barcelona's transportation network is efficient and user-friendly, making it easy to explore the city's many attractions. The metro is a popular choice for both locals and tourists, with its extensive coverage and frequent service. With eight lines connecting major sites like La Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, and the Gothic Quarter, it's a convenient way to get around.

Metro stations are well-marked, and trains run from early morning until midnight, extending to 2 AM on weekends. Purchasing a T10 ticket or a Hola BCN card offers unlimited rides on the metro, buses, and trams, providing great value for visitors.

Buses and trams complement the metro system, reaching areas not served by underground lines. Barcelona's buses are reliable and cover extensive routes, with night buses (NitBus) ensuring safe travel after dark. Trams, particularly useful in the city's newer districts, offer a scenic way to traverse less-touristy neighbourhoods.

For a more leisurely pace, consider renting a bike or electric scooter. The city's dedicated bike lanes and the scenic waterfront make cycling a pleasant option. With such a variety of transportation options, getting around Barcelona is a breeze, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the city's vibrant culture and attractions.
