Welcome to Arusha: Where Adventure Begins

Skyview of Mount Kilimanjaro

Before we dive into the nitty-gritty of where to rest your weary head, let's chat about Arusha for a hot minute. This bustling city is like the VIP entrance to Northern Tanzania's wildlife wonderland. It's the kind of place where you can sip a latte in a chic café one minute and be face-to-face with a lion the next (well, maybe not quite that fast, but you get the drift).

Arusha is the jumping-off point for some of the most jaw-dropping safaris you'll ever experience. We're talking Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Mount Kilimanjaro – the holy trinity of African adventures! But don't think Arusha is just a pit stop. Oh no, this city's got charm by the bucketload. From colorful markets to mouthwatering cuisine, Arusha is a destination in its own right.

 Getting to Arusha

Family seated awaiting for their connection flight
Family seated awaiting for their connection flight

Now, I know what you're thinking: "This all sounds great, but how the heck do I get there?" Well, my friend, you've got options:

1. Fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO): This is your best bet if you're coming from afar. It's about 46 km east of Arusha. From there, you can grab a taxi or arrange a transfer with your hotel.

2. Arusha Airport (ARK): If you're already in Tanzania, you might fly into this smaller airport, which is just on the outskirts of the city.

3. Overland from Nairobi: Feeling adventurous? You can take a shuttle bus from Nairobi, Kenya. It's about a 5-6 hour journey, but hey, the views are worth it!

Pro tip: No matter how you get there, have your camera ready. The scenery en route to Arusha is so gorgeous, it'll make your Instagram followers weep with envy!
