As a traveler, I'm always on the lookout for hidden gems. Places that are off the beaten path, away from the crowds. Tanzania is known for its wildlife and stunning landscapes, but did you know it's also home to some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world? From towering cascades to secluded swimming holes, Tanzania's waterfalls offer a refreshing escape from the heat and hustle of the city.


During my travels to Tanzania, I made it a point to seek out some of these hidden gems. I was not disappointed. The waterfalls I discovered were breathtaking, and each one had its own unique charm. In this post, I'll share my favorite Tanzania waterfalls and why they're worth a visit.

The Materuni waterfall is located in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania. It's a short hike from the Materuni village, and the trail is lined with coffee plantations. Kikuletwa Hot Springs is a hidden oasis in the Arusha region of Tanzania. The springs are crystal clear, and the water is a perfect temperature for swimming. The surrounding trees and foliage provide shade, making it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the scenery.

Section 3: Ndoro Waterfall



Ndoro Waterfall is located in the Usambara Mountains of Tanzania. It's a bit off the beaten path, but the journey is well worth it. The waterfall is tucked away in a secluded valley, and the surrounding forest is home to a variety of birds and monkeys.


The waterfall itself is 30 meters tall, and the water drops into a small pool below. The pool is perfect for swimming, and the water is crystal clear. The area around the waterfall is also a great spot for a picnic or a hike.

Section 4: Kisasa Waterfalls



The Kisasa Falls are beautiful waterfalls located south of Lushoto. It can be reached by boda-boda or by car and the last section, you have to do it on foot, going down to the entrance of the waterfalls to enjoy it. You can also take a short excursion to go and see the waterfalls and at the same time, take the opportunity to walk around the area.



The hike to the Kisasa Waterfalls takes approximately 1-2 hours, depending on your starting point and fitness level. Along the way, you'll be treated to stunning views of the surrounding hills and forests, as well as the occasional wildlife sighting.

 

Once you reach the waterfalls, you'll be greeted by a series of cascading pools, each with its own unique character and charm. Visitors can explore the various levels of the falls, cooling off in the refreshing waters or simply enjoying the peaceful ambiance.

Section 5: Chizua Waterfalls, Mikumi National Park, Tanzania


Chizua waterfalls hiking is breath taking experience to the least known local water falls attraction founded in Udunghu village. The waterfalls located on Vidunda Mountains where dwell small tribe Vidunda. Meet with local people who are eager to share their traditional with you.

Section 6: Hululu Waterfalls, Mgeta, Morogoro


The falls are located 53.3km to the southeast of Morogoro town, at vinile village in Bunduki ward. The tour starts from Morogoro town by car to vinile, then half an hour walk to the falls in Mgeta River. While in this area you can easily watch endemic reptiles such as lizards, Uluguru three-horned, two and one-horned chameleons’ endemic plant species such as Allanblackia uluguruensis and saintpaulia goetzeana. On the way to Hululu waterfalls, you will find the Bunduki campsite and rest house. The rest house is fully furnished with all the sleeping facilities. There is enough space for camp.

Section 7: Napuru Waterfalls, Arumeru, Arusha


A beautiful waterfall on the slopes of mount Meru, that normally requires a short walk to get to. It is part of the early stages of the Themi river, that flows through Arusha's city centre and into its southern outskirts.


What to do there?


Hike to the falls and enjoy the beautiful scenery, or take a dip if you feel like. The hike takes you through the Themi river valley, one of the only ways to access the enclosure where the falls are located, so wear your hiking boots.


No special tools or climbing skills are required to get there, but a bit of stamina is necessary to make your way through a valley filled with pebbles, rocks and boulders - some of which may be slippery.
